classes.
Math, science, art, music, economics,
religion, psychology, politics, government,
international relations and much, much more
are appropriate topics for discussion in
social studies classes.
However, teachers in this subject area
must be very Professional in dealing with
controversial subject matter.
Especially, the teacher must be very
careful not to use "the bully pulpit"
of the classroom and the captive audience
of students to put forth and propagandize
the teacher's personal views. This is
most often abused in the areas of
politics and social issues.
It is the teacher's professional mandate
to give the students the intellectual tools
to make informed and intelligent decisions
and form their own opinions in these areas.
